Watercolour on 300g paper, 2026. 30×30cm, painted area 25×25cm, unframed. The second painting in the Winter Harvest series.
The Winter Harvest series explores arrangements of New Zealand winter fruits and various glass objects illuminated by the low winter sun. The low-angle sun rays strike the objects and bounce off their curved surfaces, creating multiple reflections. Under these conditions, shadows are enriched with deep colours; rather than being neutral, their hues are influenced by nearby coloured fruits. Furthermore, light shining through the glass and thin, transparent fruit slices creates an additional optical effect, producing a warm glow from within the objects themselves. Elements of this composition appear in the larger anchor work, Winter Harvest: Bounty.
